The greatest freedom is not to be found
ahead—-in the land of what comes next. It’s not
what we can slide into when we get past
the moment we’re in. Because when the future gets here it will be
the present and just as burdened by the expectation that
the better day is the one not yet arrived.
It is this moment
that contains all we need. It is
the love with which I am surrounded. The
mind-blowing Fullness of this
very day. It is as loud as the silence the birds
demand to fill. The possibility of beloved community so tragically denied.
There is a moment
right here. The only
one I’ll ever be in. Until
the next.

One response to “Poetry – There is a Moment Right Here”
I like the way you’ve played with enjambment and greatly varying line length to slow us readers down and keep us in the poem and in the moment. Form underscores meaning. Bravo!
